Fall and Winter Movies

So, now that it’s fall, or autumn, whatever you prefer to call it, Hollywood is releasing a whole new set of blockbusters…they hope.

There are at least a few that I’m really excited about, and I’ll tell you why.

fury

1.) Fury, coming to theaters October 17th.

This movie looks so epic and awesome that I cry during the trailers. It looks like a very intense, realistic war movie.

It’s about an American tank crew in WWII, led by an Army Sergeant (Brad Pitt) as they storm Germany in the final stages of the war in 1945.

I expect to be blown away by the acting, drama and war scenes, I can’t wait for this one!

2.) Next on my list is Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar which will hit theaters on November 7th.

After all of the previews and trailers that I’ve watched, I still don’t exactly know what this movie is about. I know that it stars Matthew McConaughey as a dad who is for some reason asked to man a flight into space to possibly colonize Mars? Or a different planet? I also heard that it’s supposed to contain time travel or black hole traveling, not exactly sure how that will fit in either.

Either way though, Christopher Nolan is a great director and I’m sure he’s going to make something amazing out of it. I’ll make sure to see it in 3D as well, some of the trailers have awesome shots of space that remind me of Gravity, and that movie was amazing in 3D. (Apparently this movie was originally supposed to be directed by Steven Spielberg but he turned it down, so Christopher Nolan took it instead, just an interesting side-note.)

And next, a movie you’ve all been waiting for! Drumroll please!

3.) Dumb and Dumber To!

dumb and dumber to Wow, it’s been a whopping 20 years since the first one came out, and this one is coming out on November 14th, get ready, November is about to be a big month!

I think people are very divided about this movie. Some loyal fans are super excited about it, such as myself, but others have very low expectations of it. But really, there aren’t many comedy sequels that are funny, or even as funny as their predecessors. There are a few rare exceptions though, like Ghostbusters II, Toy Story 2 and 3, Shrek 2, Rush Hour 2, Men in Black 2 and 3, and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

To be honest, I’m just really excited to see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back together again, and hopefully to see Jim Carrey in another funny roll, I feel like he hasn’t been in a really funny movie for a long time.

But regardless of how you feel about it, or how you felt about the first movie, this one is bound to draw sold out theaters for the first few weeks.

This was my favorite scene from the trailer, I started cracking up when I saw it.

4.) Another movie opening up the same weekend is Foxcatcher.

Foxcatcher poster

This movie is basically the exact opposite of everything that Dumb and Dumber To will be. Before seeing the trailers on Flixster, I hadn’t heard about this movie at all. It stars Steve Carell and Channing Tatum as a boxing coach and boxer, and it’s based on a true story.

I’m not exactly too sure what happens but at the end of the trailer Steve Carell walks into the gym with a pistol, and that’s enough to freak me out! Steve is also wearing like 2 tons of makeup for this movie, and it looks pretty crazy.

It’s cool to see Steve Carell in a new roll where he isn’t the funny guy, and I’m excited to see him bring on the drama! Look at that make-up work!

5.) Next on my list is another addition to the new trendy Biblical movies category, this time coming from Director Ridley Scott, the Director of Alien, Prometheus and Gladiator. Exodus: Gods and Kings storms into theaters December 12th.

exodus

I’m just hoping that they’ll at least stay partially true to Scripture and not go crazy with it and make something like The Last Temptation of Christ. But in any case, you can’t expect Hollywood to stay true to the Bible anyway. Much like the film Noah that came out earlier this year, I’m sure many Christians will be protesting this movie or picking it apart like crazy online.

But whatever your views, I hope Ridley Scott makes it just as epic as Gladiator, I can imagine it being pretty comparable. I did read something online that criticized it for casting Christian Bale and Sigourney Weaver in non-White rolls. I find that interesting, and see that as a trend, they did that with Noah as well, and typically Jesus used to be portrayed as a blonde white man. So we’ll see what Ridley Scott’s answers are to that.

But anyway, I’m still excited to see this.

6.) Up next is a movie that I wish I had made before Angelina Jolie got her hands on it, Unbroken, which will hit theaters on Christmas Day.

unbrokenAnother film that’s based on a powerful true story, it follows the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was drafted into WWII, who, while on a rescue mission over the Pacific Ocean, is shot down. Stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with only a life raft and a little bit of food, he manages to survive for 40 days, and then is “rescued” by the Japanese and spends the rest of the war in a POW camp, being beaten and tortured. Once the war is won and he is set free, he still has problems back home, alcoholism, smoking, girls. But God intervenes and calls him back, and he spends the rest of his years touring with Billy Graham, preaching to thousands and leading them to Jesus.

Unbroken is based off of the book with the same name, a biography of his life. The book that I read is called Devil at My Heels, and is his actual autobiography.

Now, in the true Hollywood fashion, I feel like they will downplay the Billy Graham and preaching part, if even including it at all, but we’ll see.

Needless to say I’m very excited about this movie, I loved the book, it was an amazing story. I hope that Angeline Jolie can handle a story this big, especially since this is her Directorial debut, not sure why she picked this one, it’s a pretty big bite.

So these are the 6 movies that I’m most excited about for the rest of 2014. Sure, there are some other good ones coming out, but these are the main ones that I want to see in theaters. There are a few others that I’d also like to see, but I can wait until they hit RedBox. Some of these include:

The new Left Behind movie, with Nicholas Cage, mostly because I think it will be funny, I have no idea who decided to cast Nicholas Cage, I feel like that was asking for it to be a joke right at the start, no offense Nick…

Good People, I actually do want to see this, but I think it could also be acceptable to watch at home.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Could be funny, Steve Carell is back in a funny roll again, I can wait for RedBox though.

Automata, Antonio Banderas being kidnapped by robots, could be cool, but again, I’ll wait, unless it gets good reviews…

Birdman, not even sure what this is about. Michael Keaton is a washed up super hero? Or a washed up actor? Can’t tell.

Big Hero 6, a big white robot, could be funny, I’ll wait.

The Hunger Games, I probably actually will see it, but I don’t feel like writing about it…

The Hobbit, same as above…

So, this is my list, wait for my reviews that will be coming soon!
